History
Linn County formed around 1967 in Linn County, Iowa, USA as the Linn County Blues Band. In 1968, the band signed with Mercury Records, moved to San Francisco, California, and changed its name to Linn County. They released their first album Proud Flesh Soothseer in 1968 and toured, performing with bands and people such as: Albert King, Led Zeppelin, Sly & the Family Stone, Eric Burdon & the Animals and Ten Years After. They never became too well known. The band broke up after Clark Pierson left with Janis Joplin. Linn County released three albums from 1968 to 1970. Over the course of their existence, they had six band members.

Biography
Originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, this powerful, blues-based quintet - Stephen Miller (organ, vocals), Fred Walk (guitar, sitar), Larry Easter (saxophones, flute), Dino Long (bass) and Ray "Snake' McAndrew (drums) - subsequently moved to Chicago and then San Francisco. Their impressive debut for Mercury Records, 1968"s Proud Flesh Soothsayer, included the lengthy "Protect And Serve/Bad Things" which showcased the exhilarating interplay between the unit's instrumental protagonists. A more orthodox collection, Fever Shot, nonetheless featured several hard-edged, disciplined performances, while a final release on the Philips Records label, Till The Break Of Dawn, offered a vibrant reading of John Lee Hooker's "Boogie Chillen" as its highlight. By this point McAndrew had been replaced by Clark Pierson, but the group was unable to capitalize upon their cult status and broke up soon afterwards. Miller completed a solo album, which featured the entire Linn County line-up, before joining the Elvin Bishop group. Pierson drummed in Janis Joplin's Full Tilt Boogie Band.
